Energy Star publishes new lamps specification version 1.0
Energy Star has now published version 1.0 of a new standard to replace both ‘CFLs’ and ‘Integral LED Lamps’. Key points for LED drivers include:
- power factor > 0.7 for PIN > 5 W; lamps with PIN ≤ 5 W are PF-exempt;
- efficacy ≥ 55 lm/W for PIN < 10 W and efficacy ≥ 60 lm/W for PIN ≥ 10 W;
- lamp lifetime ≥ 10,000 hrs and warranty ≥ 2 years, based on usage of ≥ 3 hours per day.
A definition, method of measurement and compatibility metric for dimmable lamps are also all in development.

The effective date for the latest Energy Star Luminaires standards has now been postponed from October 2011 to April 2012.

Energy Star proposes new Lamps specification
Energy Star is proposing a new standard to replace those for CFLs (V4.2) and Integral LED Lamps (V1.3). The new standard is likely to consider possible changes to the following current requirements:
- power factor >0.7 for PIN >5 W;
- efficacy >50 lm/W for PIN <10 W or >55 lm/W for PIN ≥10 W;
- and warranty ≥3 years (note that the warranty is already ≥ 5 years for Luminaires).
