SMPS CAD Tool
Developer
SMPS Design
Engineer
Asia-based roles:
Senior Product Engineer (Hong
Kong) - Ref CS074
The main responsibilities of the Digital IC Design Engineer are:
- Specification, design and implementation using standard cell libraries on target silicon processes of digital circuits which support and are an integral part of CamSemi mixed signal controller ICs for SMPS.
- Implementation and support of the digital control circuits on FPGA-based chip emulator platforms for full mixed signal system emulation and verification of CamSemi SMPS IC products.
Suitable candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or a related subject as well as:
- Extensive experience of digital IC design using HDL (eg Verilog) and logic synthesis preferably in a Cadence-based EDA tools environment;
- Experience of designing digital blocks for small (1 to 2 mm2) ICs addressing high volume, cost-sensitive consumer applications.
- Experience in design of embedded digital blocks in a mixed signal IC and understanding of the key interfacing issues.
CamSemi makes and sells integrated circuits for SMPS and lighting ballast applications in high volume, cost sensitive consumer markets. Customer design-ins are won by providing complete product solutions in the form of fully qualified, production-ready reference designs which meet stringent performance and efficiency targets.
The role of the SMPS Architect is to analyse customer requirements, create full application solutions and specify new integrated circuits products which deliver compelling value in the bill of materials.
In the process of creating application designs the SMPS Architect will use advanced simulation techniques to develop algorithms and lead applications engineers in prototyping circuits on the bench.
In summary, the SMPS Architect is responsible for:
- Development of compelling IC-based solutions for SMPS and lighting ballast applications by analysis of market-driven requirements;
- Specification of CamSemi IC products at the architecture and algorithm level;
- Specification and architecting of full SMPS/ballast reference designs, using CamSemi IC products, for customer applications
- Creation of world-class, patentable IP.
Suitable candidates will need to be/have:
- Qualified to degree level in electrics or electrical engineering.
- Likely to have a PhD in a relevant subject (power conversion).
- Hands-on experience specifying and developing SMPS and lighting ballast designs, ideally with IC implementation, for cost-sensitive, high volume consumer applications.
- Experience of working on new product introduction programs within a structured process framework.
- A track record of successfully delivering cost effective power conversion solutions for volume production.
The SMPS CAD Tool Developer is responsible for:
- General methodology for CAD tool development and deployment.
- Capture and analysis of specific CAD tool requirements for all CamSemi products.
- Selection and specification of implementation languages and development environments.
- Liaison with CamSemi’s SMPS systems and applications engineers to fully understand the design equations, rules of thumb, component libraries and constraints that must be implemented by the tools.
- Creating internal software documentation.
- Creating user documentation.
- User support (probably via a web-based support forum).
Suitable candidates will have at least a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Physics or a related subject. The degree syllabus will almost certainly have included both electronics and software engineering elements. Candidates will also need to have most of the following experience:
- Development of GUI-driven applications for Windows/PC and web platforms using an object-oriented approach;
- Behavioural modelling and simulation of mixed signal electronic circuits;
- CAD tool development;
- Use of several of the suggested implementation languages.
Development of circuits that use CamSemi’s innovative offline (high voltage) power conversion ICs for switched mode power supplies:
- Boards for CamSemi’s customers to use when evaluating the functionality and performance of our IC products, with a view to designing them in to their own end product (typically a switch mode power supply or lighting ballast);
- Demonstrators that show CamSemi’s product in a typical application;
- Reference designs which are full developed, toleranced and ready for volume manufacture.
Initial test and debug of early samples of new ICs, working closely with members of the IC design team to identify and diagnose any non-compliances.
Board-level prototyping and verification of circuits, that are ultimately to be implemented in new IC products, in order to verify that proposed techniques and control algorithms meet the IC design requirements.
Suitable candidates will need to be qualified to degree level with strong theoretical grounding in analogue power electronics, particularly for switch mode power and to have:
- Hands-on experience developing SMPS designs for cost-sensitive, high volume consumer applications;
- Experience of working on new product introduction programs within in a structured process framework;
- and a track record of successfully delivering cost effective SMPS solutions for volume production.
Senior Product Engineer (Hong Kong) - Ref CS074
The Senior Product Engineer will support qualification and production of CamSemi's IC products. The Engineer will be the first point of contact for our Asian manufacturing partners for any technical issues in the areas of assembly and test. The engineer will be responsible for tracking and reporting yield on products, and for ongoing improvement of yield and quality. The engineer will also be responsible for support of the Quality Department with product qualification tests and for timely testing and failure analysis of customer returns.
The successful candidate will have a track record of having transferred new IC products into production, and will have managed areas such as assembly, test, quality, yield and cost in production. Experience in dealing with assembly and test subcontractors is essential. The candidate will hold a good degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline, with 3-5 years of experience in Product Engineering. Fluency in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese and English is essential.
